Beautiful Place by the Sea
Ogunquit
means Beautiful Place by The Sea in the language of the
Algonquin Indians. It has been called "the most walkable community in Maine"
because of its 3 1/2 miles of white sandy beach, and the famous Marginal Way, a 1 1/4 mile
walking path connecting Ogunquit center and Perkins Cove, a miniature turn of the century
fishing village. Getting around Ogunquit is
easy in season with there efficient Trolley system - just listen for the sound of the
approaching bell.
Ogunquit has long
been a magnet for artists. It first flourished as an art colony at the turn of the
century, and that tradition continues today, with an abundance of galleries and one of the
finest small museums in America, as well as plenty of shops and boutiques featuring the
work of Maine artisans and national designers.
World-class entertainers perform at
Ogunquit's renowned playhouse, and the night life in season is lively and cosmopolitan.
Ogunquit offers a huge range of accommodations, and some of the best dining in New
England.
