Guide to Oxford, Poland, Poland Spring, and Norway Maine Hotels, Inns, and Lodging

Just 30 minutes from Lewiston and 50 minutes from downtown Portland, you will discover pristine lakes and ponds, hills and back roads, worth your detour.

Many people pass through Poland, Oxford, Paris and Norway on their way to Sunday River skiing, but there is much more to explore off Route 26. Back roads lead to rolling hills and crystal clear fresh water lakes and ponds, quiet homey towns with a cafe and shop or two, fun to explore and meet a few locals. Poland and Poland Springs are known for their natural springs (surely you have heard of Poland Springs water?). Tripp, Range Pond, and Thompson Lake are all ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing in spring, summer and fall, and for snowshoeing, ice fishing and Nordic skiing in winter. Golfing, boating, hiking and biking are great ways to get outside and enjoy “the way life should be.” You can lodge at a cozy Bed and Breakfast or Inn and wake to the cry of the loons, a Maine experience like no other.

Oxford has the claim to fame of its own race track – Oxford Speedway and the Oxford Casino which makes for a great rainy day gamble.

Nearby Norway has a delightful little downtown with Maine-made crafts and gift shops, a couple of humble cafes serving burgers to BBQ, a yummy bakery, and Norway Brewing Company. In fact Norway is on the Western Maine Beer Trail for lovers of hops and hopping around. Mechanic Falls is Maine classic with antique shops and The Willows – Maine’s largest Flea Market.

How novel that you can visit Poland, Norway and Paris all in one day, without airfare or a passport. You may want to ride a few miles to Lynchville’s “World Places Sign”, also known as “Maine’s Famous Signpost,” and “the World Traveler Signpost”. Get a selfie with Denmark, Peru, Mexico, Naples, Sweden, Norway, and China all on one post.
