You want to go on a Maine vacation, but putting Fido in a kennel is a hassle. Or, finding someone to feed the cat can be a pain! Good news — Maine is among the most pet-friendly states, even along the bustling coastal towns. Lots of Maine resorts and lodging properties now accommodate dogs and cats.
Most pet friendly lodging properties are hotels and motels. However, plenty of cottages and inns accept dogs and cats too. Keep in mind that most bed and breakfasts are not pet friendly, but there are definitely some out there.
Also, note that not all campgrounds are dog friendly. Just because you have easy access to the outdoors doesn’t mean that pets are accepted, although many do welcome dogs.
Below are Maine lodging properties that are happy to accommodate you and your pets! After all, what kind of family vacation would it be without the whole family? Be sure to read the fine print too because some inns may accept only one pet or only small dogs, or there could be other restrictions.

Enjoying Pet-Friendly Attractions
What better way to spend your vacation in Maine than with man’s best friend? While we boast the Vacationland title, we also like to think it’s a Vacationland that’s gone to the dogs.
Maine beaches usually allow dogs year-round, except in peak summer months when there may be certain time restrictions on when they are allowed on the sand. Kennebunk Beach, for instance, allows dogs before 9 a.m. for example in the summer. And, any dog would love to tag along for a hiking trip on Cadillac Mountain.
Plus, pets are a welcome addition in many Maine towns. Many restaurants and shop owners will even leave water or food bowls outside their doors for those long dog days of summer. Meanwhile, there are plenty of dog parks where pets can run and play in the fresh air.
Find Pet Friendly Lodging in Maine
Many Maine hotels are pet-friendly, and most innkeepers are happy to provide pet owners with maps and names of local pet-friendly businesses, beaches, and walking areas. Some hotels have pet-friendly packages that include special treats or even a dog bed in your room.
NOTE: Though we list pet friendly lodges in Maine, please take care to read the specific acknowledgments and requirements for the hotel you choose. Most hotels and inns, for example, require dogs be leashed on the premises.
Pet owners are often responsible for picking up after their pets on outdoor property and cleaning up accidents that occur indoors, as well as reporting any damage caused by their pets. An extra charge for dogs is usually charged to offset the lodging properties’ extra cleaning expenses for the room, carpet cleaning, etc.
To some travelers, it’s not really a family vacation if the family dog is left behind in a kennel. That’s why pet friendly hotels, resorts, inns, and other lodging properties exist — to let you enjoy a Maine family vacation with the whole family.
