When you ask a Maine local and someone from out of state what camping is, you’ll get various answers. While campgrounds in Southern Maine are fun places to meet fellow campers while staying close to coastal towns, any Mainer will tell you it’s not real camping until you go North. Maine’s Kennebec Valley & Moose River region is where you can have a real camping experience that satiates your adventurous outdoorsy side.

About Campgrounds & RV Parks in the Kennebec & Moose River Valley

A white water rafting adventure is one of the most exciting outdoor vacations that Maine has to offer. Campgrounds in the Kennebec & Moose River Valley are often rafting outfitters offering group rafting tours, as well as river equipment and transportation. Also, most campground resorts have ATV and snowmobile tours and rentals in winter. Some even have moose safaris as an added incentive to get the most out of the outdoors.

Many campgrounds on the Kennebec and Moose River region — like in Bingham and The Forks — are resort-like with recreation centers, game rooms, on-site restaurants, swimming, and pubs to round out a camping trip in Maine’s backwoods while retaining signs of civilization. Campers can set up a tent on their campsite or rent a cabin and escape into the wilderness for hiking, rock climbing, or fishing.
