Come to Maine’s Highlands where you can get a feel of what “roughing it” is all about. As you travel the back roads to your campground destination, you are sure to spot a moose or two. Visitors to this region can relish the beauty of the region’s remote wilderness, however, camping here usually appeals to outdoor enthusiasts.

About Campgrounds & RV Parks in the Maine Highlands
Camping in Maine’s Highlands means that you’re in the region of Moosehead Lake, Mt Katahdin, and Baxter State Park. You have many great hiking opportunities between Big Squaw Mountain, Elephant Mountain, and Big Spencer Mountain.
And, the Maine Highlands are big for ATVers because many campgrounds have access to an extensive network of trails and offer ATV tours. Many huntsmen come to this region for big game like moose, deer, and even bear, and a lot of campgrounds provide guided hunting trips and hiking excursions.
Here, you can find rental campers for overnight accommodations, and some are complete with kitchens, seating, and baths with hot running water. Many cabin and cottage rentals include heat and air conditioning, but be aware that not all of them do. Camping in Maine’s great outdoors is not glamping — it’s the real deal. Just ask the moose!
