Skiing is one of Maine's best winter activities, on some of the biggest mountains in New England. In fact, Maine is home to two of the largest ski resorts in the East - Sunday River and Sugarloaf. Nordic skiers will find they can cross country or snowshoe in so many places in Maine, trails, farms, fields, and ski resortsSnowmobiling is a rush when you are cruising across a snow covered field, or across frozen lakes, or navigating the extensive Maine snowmobile trail network and mountain terrain. Great events abound in Maine's winter season too, ice fishing derbies and winter carnivals, ski resort festivals from Thanksgiving openings, sometimes even Halloween skiing at Sunday River, to Easter and Reggaefest at Sugarloaf.

Maine also hosts nationally recognized holiday celebrations in seaside villages complete with carriage rides, Christmas craft fairs, fireworks and more.
