Just south of Ellsworth, unless arriving by boat, one must pass through Trenton Maine to get to Mount Desert Island. Even those flying into Bar Harbor will land in the Hancock County Bar Harbor Airport which is actually located in Trenton. Trenton Maine is an ideal location to stay and tour Mount Desert IslandBar HarborNortheast and Southwest Harbors affordably.

Hotels and lodges tend to be less expensive here and you escape from some of the hubbub of Bar Harbor by staying on the outskirts of the bustling seaside town of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Visitors here can also take a scenic glider or biplane ride from the private airport for a beautiful bird’s eye view of the amazing Acadia landscape from aloft.

Visitors here enjoy the big lobster shacks alongside the Maine roads, shop the quirky Maine craft shops or slip in a round of golf at the nearby Bar Harbor golf course. You’re also close to Schoodic Peninsula, part of Acadia, with its scenic seaside loop and stunnign granite shores.
