There are a few towns in Southern Maine that generally offer less expensive lodging as they are considered less optimum vacation stays, however, in reality, they typically offer all the amenities of a classic coastal Maine vacation. Wells Maine, for example has seven miles of sandy beach, wildlife preservations, deep sea fishing charters, antique shops, acclaimed dining all following the length of US Route 1. In reality, Wells shares many of the same amenities that people are looking for on a vacation, yet offers noticeably less expensive lodging than its sister towns, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. Though some may not consider this ideal, these less expensive lodgings are typically located in quieter areas of town, away from the hubbub of tourism.
