There are a few towns in Southern Maine that generally offer less expensive lodging as they are considered less optimum vacation stays, however, in reality, they typically offer all the amenities of a classic coastal Maine vacation. Wells Maine, for example has seven miles of sandy beach, wildlife preservations, deep sea fishing charters, antique shops, acclaimed dining all following the length of US Route 1. In reality, Wells shares many of the same amenities that people are looking for on a vacation, yet offers noticeably less expensive lodging than its sister towns, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. Look for lodging in Kittery, Wells, Berwick, or Saco, for more affordable vacation stays as these are less known vacation destinations, yet each have unique vacation aspect to offer. That isn’t to say you can’t find a good lodging deal in Ogunquit or Kennebunkport. More affordable lodges can be found further away from commercial centers or popular attractions, like Rhumb Line Resort in Kennebunkport, which is still only a short bike ride away from Dock Square. And you can always find gems like Seaside Inn which offers competitive room rates, even while it has its private beach access for guests. Though some may not consider this ideal, these less expensive lodgings are typically located in quieter areas of town, away from the hubbub of tourism.
So there you have it, good luck on your search for affordable Southern Maine lodging!
