The Forks is more of an intersection of two rivers, the Dead River and Kennebec River, than a town.
Well known as the headquarters of several white water rafting outfitters and seated along the Old Scenic Byway navigating its way toward Canada, through Bingham, the Forks is the epicenter and start for rafting and whitewater camping trips. Many travelers to the Forks will find untamed wilderness, wildlife including moose, deer, loon and other Maine birds.
Anglers, hunters, and hikers will find the Forks as the perfect vacation destination to experience the great outdoors with tour companies that offer Maine guides for rafting, ATV, biking, rock climbing and snowshoeing treks.
By the winter time, snowmobiling becomes the method of transportation. Many lodges in The Forks offer rentals and guides for rafting, ATVing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling while offering home-cooked meals by a fire after a day of rigorous outing. Or you can rent your own rustic camp or cabin on the river or stay in a nearby campground to really get the taste of Vacationland.
The Forks is casual, rustic, real Maine, nothing fancy – but it sure is fun.
